WE BELIEVE IN GOD’S WORD
Generations of Serving Christ
Since 1887, Virtue Cumberland Presbyterian Church has been an integral part of the Knoxville community.

History
When our church was formed back in 1887, it was a non-denominational house of worship and school intent on serving the community of Virtue, which was an area roughly defined by Old Stage and Boyd Station Roads. In those days, the area was primarily farmland and included the homesteads of many families with names you may recognize – like McFee, Campbell, Ivey, Russell, Montgomery, Campbell, and Kennedy among others.
Although the landscape has changed and the area has grown, many of these founding families are still a part of our church today, and we are continuously blessed by the hard work and legacy of these families from over 135 years ago. Over the years, the church facilities have moved, expanded, and improved thanks to the generous support of committed members with the desire to spread the Word of Jesus Christ and provide the community with a Christ-centered and family-focused place to worship and serve.
Leadership
Virtue Church is a part of the Cumberland Presbyterian denomination today, a fellowship of churches with a common understanding of our beliefs and responsibilities as Christians. While the denomination provides structure for church governance, like most denominations, we share common Christian tenets of our faith and you can get a comprehensive picture of that by reading our Affirmation of Faith and Commitment to Witness.
We invite you to stop by and meet our pastor, David Koopman, who would be delighted to answer any questions you may have about our church, our beliefs, and how you can get involved. Our focus is on providing a positive, inclusive, and friendly place for everyone in our community to grow in Christ and build a lasting relationship with Him.
